Actual fuel use depends on the vehicle, its condition, route, load and driving pattern, so buyers who mainly cover long highway distances should compare the recorded and real-world economy relevant to their use.
Hybrid systems differ. Some full hybrids can move short distances using electric power alone, while others use the motor mainly to assist the engine. Nissan's e-POWER system is different again: the petrol engine generates electricity for an electric motor that drives the wheels. It is not a plug-in hybrid or a battery-electric vehicle.
