How do I know whether a performance car has been modified?

The auction sheet notes obvious modifications, but the Japan-side inspection is the reliable check. Modifications matter for compliance as much as for value, so it is far better to identify them before you bid than after the car lands.

What does the auction grade tell me about a performance car?

The grade assesses body and interior condition. It is not a mechanical report and says nothing about how the car has been driven — an R grade indicates repair history. For this category especially, treat the grade as a starting point and let the inspection do the rest.

Are these cars registrable in Australia once imported?

Yes, once complied. Where a car has been modified, some changes may need to be removed or re-engineered before registration, which is exactly why the pre-bid inspection matters on performance cars.
