No car here rewards a pre-bid inspection more than an RX-7. The 13B rotary is the whole story: a tidy-looking FD with poor compression is an engine rebuild waiting to happen, and an auction sheet will not tell you which car you are bidding on.
Both the FC3S and FD3S reach Japanese auctions, often modified, frequently with a rebuild somewhere in their history that may or may not be documented. The ones worth importing are where that history is real and verifiable.
The FC3S is comfortably inside. FD3S Series 6 and 7 are in range; later builds depend on the exact date.
A model appearing here does not make a specific car eligible — the same model can include eligible and ineligible builds. Carbarn confirms the exact vehicle's verified build date and import pathway before any bid proceeds, and registration remains subject to your state or territory's requirements.
Sequential twin-turbo. Series 6 (1991–95) is the most numerous at auction; Series 7 and 8 brought revised cooling, interiors and higher outputs. Type R, RS and RZ are the sharper factory variants; Spirit R closed the model out.
Single-turbo, simpler and far cheaper. Rust and interior condition matter more than on the FD, and good unmodified examples are getting genuinely hard to find.
A rotary's compression figures tell you where it is in its life. We check them and look for evidence supporting any claimed rebuild — receipts, matching ancillaries, an engine bay that is clean but not suspiciously so. An undocumented rebuild is not a rebuild.
FDs live or die on cooling. Aged radiators, tired coolant seals, blocked oil coolers and signs of past overheating turn a cheap car into an expensive one. We photograph the front of the engine bay properly.
The sequential turbo system runs on a web of vacuum hoses. Many owners have simplified it, converted to single turbo, or let it deteriorate. Knowing which applies changes the value and what you will be dealing with.
Both generations rot in the rear arches, sills and around the rear suspension mounts. That is underbody photography territory, not something visible in a side-on auction shot.
Documented compression and a credible service history are worth more than any modification. Original cars, factory variants like Type R and RS, and straight rust-free shells command the strongest results. A cheap RX-7 is often the most expensive car here once it lands.
After your deposit, our Japan-side team inspects the car in Japan and Aniku sends the real photos to your WhatsApp — before any bid is placed. You see the underbody, the hidden repairs, the real condition. You decide: bid or skip. Around that, we filter every vehicle for Australian import eligibility and show landed, complied pricing in AUD. You confirm. Then we bid.
Auction photos are taken to sell the car. Our Japan-side team photographs what they never show: underbody, rust, hidden repairs, interior condition. Don't like what we find? Skip — your deposit is refunded, or moves to your next car.

Bid submitted and result updated
Auction photos and grades are useful, but they do not always show every defect. After your deposit, our Japan-side team inspects the car at the auction house and sends real photos — underbody, paint, interior — before any final bid is submitted.

This page is designed for buyers who want to bid on vehicles in Japan auctions and bring them to Australia. Carbarn does not show every auction vehicle from Japan. The feed is filtered so customers see vehicles that match Australian import eligibility rules or need only limited confirmation before proceeding.
Not every Japanese auction car can be imported to Australia. Model code, build month, vehicle type, pathway and compliance rules matter before a bid is placed. Carbarn's system is designed to filter vehicles against Australian import eligibility before they are shown to customers.
A deposit is required before Carbarn proceeds with a bid instruction. If the customer does not win the auction, the deposit can be made available for another auction vehicle or refunded according to Carbarn's process.
After reviewing the vehicle and cost breakdown, the customer can place a bid deposit to secure the next step. Carbarn then checks the final vehicle details, auction sheet, import eligibility and available inspection/photo findings before final bid submission. If the vehicle should not proceed, the deposit can be moved to another suitable auction vehicle or refunded according to Carbarn policy and payment method rules.
Currently at Carbarn we have Mazda RX-7 vehicles with build years 1991–2002, odometer range 82,000–165,000 km, current grade 3.5, and landed cost range AUD 22k–AUD 47k to Australia. Sourced from USS Yokohama, CAA Tokyo, MIRIVE Saitama.
Every Mazda RX-7 lot is inspected in Japan by Carbarn's team before we bid — auction sheet review, physical walk-around where the auction allows, and cross-verification of photos with the Japan-side team. The inspection report reaches you on WhatsApp before any final bid is submitted. If a lot fails inspection, we don't bid. Timeline from auction win to Australian delivery: 6–10 weeks including VIA, ocean freight, compliance and AVV inspection.
Mazda RX-7 model codes at auction today: Mazda RX-7 FD3S (3), Mazda RX-7 FC3S (2) . Model code determines the exact engine and drivetrain.
